Over write TC?
#1
I want to try this out, but I do not want it to ruin my install of Total Commander 7.02. Don't have much special installed with my TC, but I still would like to revert back to what I have now if for some reason I do not like this. Does this allow you to pick and choose what you want and whatnot? Does it initially change everything or do you have to go in and do it yourself to your own liking? Thanks for the input! This looks promising! I have been a user of TC since it came out.

Thanks for the response, but I am not sure that the thread you lead me to really answers my questions directly. I understand that it won't mess with associations unless I tell it to, correct? This meaning that I can tell it to leave that alone upon install and then go in manually to change things after install. My question remains about whether this will install as a seperate TC or overwrite the one I have? Guess I can always install it under a seperate program group with it's own name to try it out an d then go from there.

Seems I would like a lot of the feature from TCUP, but again, I do not want to screw anything up the way I have now.

Can you or anyone else add more to make me feel more comfortable with regard to my questions as originally posted?

Thanks much!

Alright... I was able to setup seperately and I did as some screenshots suggested and it didn't overwrite anything. So far I like it. Am curious though, I cannot seem to find a central location for the TCUP settings and associations. Are this somewhere I am just not seeing or are they just spread out all over the place? I am trying to figure out the color code system for the files and all. How do I find that out and change the colors to my liking and soforth? And lastly, I had at one point a button icon pack I had used in TC and was curious if it would be easy to apply that to TCUP? Thanks for the answers and input!

TC related settings are stored in wincmd.ini.

F3 and F4 keys settings are stored in "F3.ini" and "F4.ini" under:
<TCUP dir>\PLUGINS\TOOLS\OpenFileTC

Files associations (i.e. for double click) are stored in system's Registry.

Other settings can be changed using TC UP Integrator tool.

Go to:
Configuration -> Color

Here you can press "Define color by file types" button. Use F1 (help) if you have problems in this place.

Take a look on files gathered under:
<TCUP dir>\ICO\

Cool.... I think I am on the path to getting this to work the way I would like it. Great addon! One suggestion and I am not sure if you are part of the development team or not, but it would be cool if there was a way to link 'help' to things that people may not understand or know what they are. Kind of like you would see in MS Excel and such. Thanks again!

Help could be nice solution but I think that except You noone will use it.

Being honest: how many people do you know who read help files?
Total Commander has F1 functionality for almost every part of it and there are still many questions asked about basics which can be found there. It doesn't matter is it TC UP forum or TC official one, average users don't like to read at all. It is sad somehow.

Take a look on my answers here (or official board). The most of them comes from reading help or readme files, some from looking on google.com and only the few from own testings.

If you'd like to know more just read instructions in plugins / apps folders and keep in mind that TC help exists.

At the end, the steps for helping in this thread:
- I've installed TC many times in seperate dirs in the past,
- I know that F3 or F4 loads OpenFileTC tool, so I've searched for its location and took a look into files there,
- from TC Help I know about wincmd.ini structure and purpose, colouring,
- knowing proper parameter in wincmd.ini or just by loking at TC UP folders I've found DLL fies with icons which are used,
- from knowledge about Windows I know how double-click works.

That's all. A little bit of searching.

I really recommend you to be researcher.
